Our Story

Welcome to The Curl Salon! We are so excited you chose us to care for your curls. We are a salon passionate about kindness, equality, diversity and curly hair. The Curl Salon was a dream placed on the Owner; Kristina's heart when she was just a little girl cutting her mom's curly hair in the kitchen. While working in the salon industry, she realized there was an opportunity to create a space that embraced diversity and integrity, natural hair styling and an emphasis on curly kids cuts with tailored education. Having a diverse family full of curly heads it made sense that now was the time to bring a team together to meet the curly needs of those closest to her as well as those in the community. The salon inspiration came from the importance of creating a safe space for all to come and share their curly journey. And what better place to do so than the rebuild of Minneapolis' beautiful uptown.

Building the salon space was inspired by the greatest role models in her life, three wonderful women that have always loved and supported her and her dreams, they've always comforted her and made her feel at home which made sense to bring this kind of environment to our clients and community. At The Curl Salon you'll get a collaboration of her Great Grandmother's farmhouse with the luxury of her Grandmother's lake house and a pinch of plants in honor her mom's green thumb. Combined together we have a farmhouse fab environment that's sure to make you feel cozy and classy. So, come be our guest and let us pour into you and our community.

Choosing A Stylist

The Curl Salon believes in delivering only the highest quality of service while also creating space for learning and growth within the Twin Cities' professional curl styling community. That's why we provide different levels of stylist for some of our services.

Each stylist ranges in price and availability.

Stylist In Training
Stylists in Training are licensed with the State of Minnesota but are still working to complete our 8-week Curly Cut training program. Cuts from these stylists are designed to give experience to our trainees and are offered at a lower cost to you. Each cut will be supervised by a Senior Stylist.
Level 1 | Curl Specialist
At this level the stylist is a Cosmetology School Graduate with their State of MN License and has taken our 8 week Curl Salon Cirriculum. Although they may be in the beauty industry for while, they are new to curly hair. They are available to do basic cuts and color. All color consultations will be a collaboration with your stylist and an elder stylist to ensure appropriate color formulation and technique. Following your appointment the owner may send the client a brief survey pertaining to their experience. Honest feedback is essential for the stylist’s growth.
Level 2 | Curl Expert
A Curl Expert has acquired a great amount of experience with all aspects of hair and communication. They are problem solvers, well educated, educators, mentors and experienced enough to achieve more advanced color techniques, color corrections, cuts and styles. They also have an extensive clientele.
Level 3 | Curl Director
A Director stylist has the largest demand for their time behind the chair. They have an advanced level of education and are phenomenal communicators. At this point in their career they are booked for several weeks in advance. They are exceptional professionals who inspire and educate their teammates and clients.
